It bothers me that some people think that their “struggle” is similar to the millions of people around the world. It sucks that people have to wake up and go to work at a job they hate. It sucks that people can’t spend more time doing the things they find fulfilling and enjoy doing. But, at the end of the day they can provide for their families, pay their bills and buy things (as if that makes life good). Keep in mind that I’m in the no way diminishing the struggle of the working poor either because the system is set up to fail them too. That is another topic alone. But, I can’t listen to someone who thinks they have it bad when their biggest “problem” is being unable to buy a better car, boat or latest fashion item.
No one is denying that living in the industrialized world and being a robot working for corporations is what we were all created to do. However, I can’t with consciousness liken my struggle to the millions of displaced people, suffering physical and sexual brutality because of greedy people and corrupt governments. Just think, as people lives are being torn apart unscrupulous corporations are able to fund the decimation of a culture and at the same time steal precious minerals and resources to make more money.
This sickens me and I can’t help but despise the direction that humanity is going and the apathy by others fuels that feeling even more. At the end of the day the only thing people have in war torn nations is a struggle is to survive as in remain alive. So, bitching about your “sucky” job and what you can’t do until you get time off pales in comparison. People in war torn countries can’t take a two week vacation, buy a new car or find a better place in a new neighbourhood. They are just stuck and their rewards for their struggles are broken spirits and stolen potential…they have no options.
